Public meeting in Ithaca, NY - Imperialist diplomacy exposed: Behind the witch-hunt of WikiLeaks

The revolutionary uprisings in Egypt, following mass demonstrations in Tunisia and other countries, are a sign of what is to come in every country. All around the world, workers and young people confront mass unemployment, growing inequality, political repression, and a ruling establishment determined to force ordinary people to pay for the economic crisis.

No one can claim any longer that the masses are not prepared to fight. However, the emergence of a revolutionary situation in Egypt, largely spontaneous and leaderless, poses basic questions of perspective. The working class in Egypt confronts not only the hated Mubarak regime, but also the United States government, which is working closely with Mubarak and the official opposition to demobilize and crush the movement of workers and youth.

The issue of leadership is central—in Egypt and around the world. What program and organization is needed to advance the interests of the vast majority of the population? These public meetings, sponsored by the Socialist Equality Party and the International Students for Social Equality, will address the social causes and political consequences of the extraordinary developments in Egypt.
